There was a long drought the following summer. Men had nothing to do but sit in the shade of their crumbling houses, watching the simmering heat in the air and the thick and blinding dust. In the afternoon, clouds would suddenly darken the skies and great gusts of winds would swoop over theparched land. The farmers would exclaim” it’s raining!” But it was not true. Actually, there would be a few drops and hope would rise again in our hearts, and we would thank God deeply. A crowd would gather to welcome the uch-awaited rain. But it was only a few drops, nothing more. And our expectation would sink again to despair.
